Fast ForWord® Literacy Program

Image

Scientific Learning. Life Changing Results.

Language and reading mastery are among the most difficult challenges a child faces. When a child listens, talks or reads, he or she must use multiple brain areas. These areas become organized with time and experience. But for children with auditory processing disorder or other developmental delays, this process can be laborious and often lead to low self-esteem and years of academic struggle. While there is nothing that can replace the benefits of a supportive environment, neuroscience re- search has proven that if a child’s brain is ready to learn, he or she will learn.

Fast ForWord® Literacy Program

Fast ForWord® products develop the cognitive skills essential for learning and reading success. Parents see overall improved literacy and dramatic improvements in language and reading achievement. It is different from other interventions because it strengthens the key pathways in the brain that help children learn, so they can pay closer attention to their teachers, absorb information faster, and remember what they are taught.

The program addresses reading and language skills while concurrently developing foundational cognitive skills like memory, attention, processing, and sequencing. These cognitive skills are central to all learning, resulting in improved outcomes for reading and other subject areas, too.

Fast ForWord® is different from other reading intervention programs because the product was designed by neuroscientists who are experts in how the brain learns.

Individualized & Differentiated

Each learner using the Fast ForWord® program is placed at the right starting level based on our recommendation. Then, they follow a differentiated learning path that adapts with every click of the mouse. This ensures that each of clients gets the individualized instruction they need.

Easy-to-Use

The Fast ForWord® program is taught at our facility and learners can also access the program online – anytime and anywhere!

Progress Reports

Detailed graphs provide parents with their child’s progress at a very detailed level. We work to respond immediately when a child needs extra support to progress.

Proven Results

Students using the Fast ForWord® program can raise their language and/or reading skill level up to 2 years in as little as 3 months. More than 250 research studies prove that the Fast ForWord® program can help build better learners with diverse student populations.

Credibility/Science

The Fast ForWord® program is based on over 30 years of research into how the brain learns. The Fast ForWord® program traces its origins to the brain plasticity research of Scientific Learning’s founding scientists. With over 55 patents in neuroscience and education, Fast ForWord® delivers dramatic results for even the most struggling of readers.

iLs Integrated Learning Systems

Image

iLs, or integrated learning systems, is a multi-sensory program for improving brain function. iLs programs improve emotional regulation while training the brain to process sensory information. With improved regulation and processing, our ability to focus, think, and engage successfully in social situations also improves.

iLs has a global effect on the brain and central nervous system, influencing the following systems and their function: auditory, visual, vestibular (balance and coordination), motor, cognitive (thinking and reasoning) and emotional. As a result, it is successfully applied to a wide variety of conditions.

The notion that the brain is able to change in response to stimulation is an ability known as neuroplasticity. iLs programs are based on this principle, providing gentle and specific stimulation in order to activate the neural pathways used in the processing of sensory information. Neuronal connections in these pathways are strengthened and new connections are established through repeated sessions of multi-sensory input. iLs programs are customized for each person’s therapeutic goals, and gradually become more complex and challenging as they progress.

AMPS Attention, Memory, & Processing Skills

Image

AMPS, or Attention, Memory, and Processing Skills program, is a fun, interactive way to improve learning and enhance the brain. AMPS has been designed to provide a workout for the brain’s cognitive functions. It is based on research from a variety of learning theories. AMPS gives students a huge boost in the underlying processing skills needed for academic, social, and learning success.

Every person has developed their own unique learning process, but not many people are able to fully utilize all modalities. Therefore, they have unused or underused abilities. AMPS shows the brain how to use those portions to augment the learning process and enhance the brain’s capabilities. These critical processing and learning skills are addressed over and over in many different ways, in multiple different exercises.

AMPS addresses each of the following modalitites, increasing each of these specific abilities:

Auditory Processing:

  • Memory
  • Attention and Concentration
  • Sequential Processing
  • Active Listening
  • Rapid Naming
  • Response Time

Kinesthetic:

  • Balance
  • Spatial Orientation
  • Laterality
  • Directionality
  • Graphomotor (writing) control
  • Crossing the Midline

Visual:

  • Processing Speed
  • Remediation of Reversals
  • Visual Discrimination and Scanning
  • Visual Motor Planning
  • Accurate Eye Movement and Fixation
  • Blocking Distractions

CAPD Auditory Processing Disorder

Image

APD is an auditory disorder that is not the result of higher-order, more global deficit such as autism, mental retardation, attention deficits, or similar impairments.

Not all learning, language, and communication deficits are due to APD.

No matter how many symptoms of APD a child has, only careful and accurate diagnosis can determine if APD is, indeed, present.

Although a multidisciplinary team approach is important in fully understanding the cluster of problems associated with APD, the diagnosis of APD can only be made by an audiologist.

Treatment of APD is highly individualized. There is no one treatment approach that is appropriate for all children with APD.

Screening & School Observations

If you think your child requires a detailed examination of their language profile, Denise can come to your child’s school to observe him or her in a more natural environment than a speech clinic.

“School observations can help determine what grade level would suit your child best, what classroom support may be needed, and teaching strategies that will best encourage your child to improve and develop.”
